Dot Pattern Theory

A Dot Pattern is a method by which dots (small drops of ink) are placed on paper. Dots are placed so that they trick the human eye into seeing a continuous color using one of the following two methods. RIP-Queue supports both methods:

Amplitude Modulated (AM) Screening

Frequency Modulated (FM) Screening

Consider the following when deciding which dot patterns to use:

VirtualPixelâ„¢ Dot Patterns

Area Analysis

NOTE: Contone, although displayed as a dot pattern, is actually not a true dot pattern. Contone means Continuous Tone, and is only used by printers that accept Contone data.
